The Kinsley Library is happy to announce that Caleb Hattrup has met the library goal of reading “1000 Books Before Kindergarten”. He is the son of Brandi and Dustin Hattrup and the brother of Lane, Cole, Mason, and Sawyer. The whole family is very proud of him.
Caleb is five years old and his favorite food is chicken nuggets. He attends USD 347 preschool. where he loves to play outside with his classmates on the playground equipment.
In fact, playing is what Caleb likes to do best, and with four brothers there is always someone to play with. This winter, they had a lot of fun having snowball fights and shooting toy guns.
What Caleb does not like to do is go to his big brothers’ ball games. He says that It is boring, and he is looking forward to when he will be playing instead of watching. He is also looking forward to going to kindergarten where he will be able to learn and keep playing with his friends.
To celebrate his achievement, Caleb’s picture has been placed on the wall in the foyer of the library. Library director Joan Weaver also presented him with a copy of the book “Grandpa’s Tractor” by Michael Garland. Caleb chose this book for his “trophy” and it holds the record of reaching his goal.
The Hattrups are to be commended for encouraging reading even before their children start school. The “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program is available at the library for any parent that wants to give their child a head start in learning. Parents simply put a check in a box on a bookmark every time they read a book. Now is a good time to start any baby or young child on the program.
