On November 18th, Kara Heitz came from Johnson County to the library where she met with Joan Weaver and Darrel Miller about Joan’s 2012 oral history project on the 1979 Tractorcade. The fourteen interviews and digitized exhibits are accessible on the library website, www.kinsleylibrary.info.
Kara is a historian and history media producer from
Johnson County. She is working on a podcast for the Kansas 250 Commission. The podcast series which will begin in January connects stories from Kansas history to principles in the Declaration of Independence. The farmers paraded their tractors across the
country, demonstrated on the Washington D.C. mall, and lobbied the legislators for months advocating for parody exemplifying the people’s democratic right to protest their government. We will notify you when the podcast airs so you can join in listening. For
more information about Tuesday’s visit, follow Joan’s new blog at
sandhillscribbler.wordpress.com.
